The Haarlemmerstraat is known for the cool places and hotspots when visiting Amsterdam. But besides these little boutiques and crafty shops, you must visit Het Warenhuis – literally translated The Warehouse. Thé place to relax in between shopping or sightseeing on the comfy sofas behind the huge windows, to work on one of the tables or to meet your friends.
Amsterdam meets, drinks and dates at Het Warenhuis
In times long gone, the façade of the building on the Haarlemmerstraat read ‘Manufacturen-Magazijn WILLEM III’. This historical site was a department store selling fabrics, blankets and coats. Nowadays you will find a hotel above the restaurant, which makes the restaurant the perfect place for pre- or after drinks. And even though the two places blend in well, Het Warenhuis feels nothing like a hotel lobby. It is a place fitting the local community; where laptops with coffees during the day are being replaced by dates with wines and cocktails during the night.
This brings us to the many choices on the menu. Small French-international bites and dishes, a variety of cocktails and wines, and a weekend brunch served with Bloody Mary’s and refreshing Mimosas. In for a good bite but not in the mood to take place behind the windows? Order your favs and take them out.
We’ve visted Het Warenhuis on a Friday night and before we knew it, 5 hours of chitchatting and sipping on cocktails had passed. Small bites were served during the evening and the cocktails were replaced by glasses of wine. The place was full with people, which gave it a very good vibe. The comfy sofas, copper interior details and the non-matching tables that matched perfectly in the restaurant gives the place a good atmosphere.
