Panama City is offering a variety of hotels; from budget to high-end luxury stays. Casco Viejo is Panama City’s most vibrant and historic neighborhood and is the place to stay when visiting this cosmopolitan city. We stayed in different hotels in the old town, Casco Viejo, and selected our Top 3 for you.
La Isabela is a boutique hotel located in the old town of Panama City, Casco Viejo. La Isabela was built around 1857 and opened its door as a hotel last year after a renovation of almost 2 years.
The uniqueness is the luxury and spacious suites they offer, in the heart of the city. Especially the court yard, which all guests are allowed to make use of, is gorgeous. On a hot day you are also allowed to make use of the rooftop terrace, including pool, close by the hotel.
La Isabela has a total of 6 suites. You can make your choice out of the 2-bedroom suites or 1-bedroom suites. We have stayed in one of the 2-bedroom suite and we could actually play hide and seek! Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large Livingroom (including Netflix services on the TV) and a kitchen with bar.
The size of the room is enormous, it has a nice view including two balconies and the interior was modern, romantic and almost brand new! The service was excellent as the staff was friendly and helpful.
Because of the look and feel of the building, with its staircase, and the decoration of the rooms, it feels like you are staying in a house instead of a hotel. This gave us a very warm and welcome feeling.
Upgrade your stay by booking a tour, in-room chef (who prepares dinner for you) or massage/ treatment services.
The hotel is not cheap, but when you want to treat yourself a little, we definitely recommend you to stay here! Rates starting from $230 per room per night.

Tantalo is well-known in Panama City for its amazing rooftop bar. But it has more to offer. It’s not only the place to go for a sophisticated drink or good night out, you can also enjoy their dining services in the restaurant or stay in one of the ten rooms of their boutique hotel.
The team of the arty hotel Tantalo invited us to experience all concepts of the hotel and we have loved it! No doubt this place is unique and one of a kind. Entering the lobby, which is also the restaurant, makes you want to start walking around to watch the different art pieces placed in the hotel and on the walls. The collections shown are from local artists and change continuously.
The design of the bar is amazing! We absolutely loved it, as well as the green wall next to it, filled with plants from floor to ceiling!
The rooms are spacious, comfortable, colorful and arty as well. All have a balcony with a view on the old city.
The rooftop bar has an amazing view and the vibe is great! It gets very busy as soon as the sun goes down. There is a DJ performing, a wide selection of cocktails, beers and spirits, and you can enjoy some bites or a full dinner. We certainly recommend you to try this.
Talking about breakfast! Boy we loved that food! The omelet with eggs is just finger licking good. We even had it twice during our stay in Panama City – and going somewhere twice is an exception for us as we love to explore new places.
If you are coming for some peace during the weekend, we don’t recommend Tantalo as you will hear the music of the rooftop bar. The staff is aware and is prepared by placing some earplugs in to your room when you stay in the weekend, but further than that, there is not much they can do. As it was a Friday, we actually loved being able to go for some drinks in one of the coolest bars in town, and just having to go 2 floors down to get ready for bed. So that’s a choice you have to make yourself. Any weekday is actually more than fine!
Further than that, the staff is extremely friendly, the food is delicious – so are the cocktails – and the location is perfect.
Rates starting from $115 per room per night.

Sorry for any mistakes!
As a Dutchy I am doing my best to write these articles with little to no mistakes, but as English isn’t my native language, I am very sure I have failed in doing so. But, I do have to say that I love writing in English as I hope to reach more people and inspire them with my travel stories. So I hope I have managed to do that with you and you will excuse me for any mistakes made.
